On February 24, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General Ms. Rabab Fatima

Expressing gratitude for the time allocated to the meeting and conveying warm greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the head of state, as well as to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the guest emphasized the role of Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality in promoting universal peace and sustainable development.

Warmly welcoming Ms. Rabab Fatima and sending reciprocal greetings and best wishes to the UN Secretary-General, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished the guest success in the upcoming meetings and the briefing on the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, scheduled for August this year.

Taking the opportunity, the head of state sincerely congratulated Ms. Rabab Fatima on the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

Over the past eighty years, the UN has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the great goals and objectives upon which it was founded, said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing confidence that the Organization will continue to make a significant contribution to maintaining universal peace, security, and sustainable development.

As noted, Turkmenistan, possessing a status of neutrality, consistently expands interaction with countries worldwide and reputable international structures, as fully evidenced by multifaceted cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies.

In this regard, it was emphasized that strengthening strategic partnership with the UN is one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. As noted, this year, marked by the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality, has been declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust" by the UN General Assembly at the proposal of our country. This decision clearly testifies to the broad recognition by the international community of Turkmenistan's initiatives in the interests of universal peace and sustainable development.

The meeting continued with an exchange of views on organizational measures in the context of preparations for the high-level UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, scheduled for this year.

In this context, the head of state emphasized the special attention paid in Turkmenistan to the development of the transport and communications sector: the advantageous geographical location of our country serves as a reliable platform for expanding the transport and logistics network, and this fact, in turn, determines the measures taken to create important international multimodal transport corridors North–South and East–West for the region.

In the context of consistently implemented targeted activities, the role of four UN General Assembly resolutions in the field of sustainable transport was highlighted.

"In 2022, an international conference was held in the National Tourist Zone 'Avaza' with the participation of transport ministers from landlocked developing countries, as well as international and regional structures. Within its framework, current issues on creating sustainable transport and transit corridors were discussed," said the head of state.

In conclusion, reaffirming Turkmenistan's readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima robust health, happiness, and success in her responsible mission.
