On May 2, a ceremony was held to mark the opening of the Balkanabat International Airport, with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the event, heads of international organizations and foreign companies also delivered speeches and presented certificates confirming that the new international airport meets established standards.
First, the Director for the European and North Atlantic region of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Nicolas Rallon, delivered a virtual address and announced that Balkanabat International Airport has been officially registered by ICAO and is globally recognized.
Next, Dmitry Kosolapov, Deputy Director for Infrastructure of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), spoke and stated that the airport had been awarded a certificate of compliance with IATA requirements.
A representative of Munich International Airport presented a certificate confirming that the Balkanabat International Airport was constructed in accordance with international standards.
Additionally, a representative of the consulting firm Al-Hatmi Consulting handed over a certificate confirming that the airport's construction meets global requirements.
