On August 20, a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Secretary of State of the United States of America Marco Rubio took place in Washington. During the negotiations, the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the USA were discussed, as well as international issues of mutual interest.
The parties paid special attention to political and diplomatic cooperation at the bilateral level and within the framework of joint activities in international organizations.
At the same time, the importance of regular contacts between the foreign policy departments of the two countries was emphasized, one of the effective forms of which are the annual bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the US State Department.
Diplomats concluded that the most important direction of bilateral relations is economic partnership, noting that its main components should be cooperation in the investment and technological spheres. An important role in the development of economic relations is played by the Turkmen-American Business Council, which includes leading American companies.
Heads of foreign policy departments spoke in favor of further increasing the potential of joint activities in such areas as education, science, culture and other socially significant areas.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Secretary of State of the United States agreed to continue regular contacts with the aim of activating Turkmen-American relations.
