A meeting was held with the Special Adviser of the US Department of State

On 10 September, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with Sara Minkara, Special Advisor on International Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the US Department of State.

During the meeting, the US State Department delegation was acquainted with the national system and legislation on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as measures to realise the rights of persons with disabilities in the country.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Optional Protocol, as well as prospects for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States in this area.

The interlocutors emphasised that Turkmenistan is consistently improving the legislative framework to expand support systems for people with disabilities, and is working to further promote human rights for people with disabilities.

In continuation of the meeting, the priorities of cooperation on the protection of the rights of people with disabilities within the framework of the "C5+1" format were outlined.
