The 33rd session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO was held in Paris

From 25 June to 3 July 2025, the 33rd Session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is taking place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. On 24 June, the 58th Session of the IOC Executive Council was held.

The event includes thematic scientific sessions and special meetings aimed at strengthening international cooperation in monitoring the state of the oceans, predicting the impacts of climate change and protecting the marine environment.

The delegation of Turkmenistan, consisting of the Director of the Institute of the Caspian Sea of Turkmenistan Myrat Atajanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev, as well as an employee of the treaty and legal department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Kemal Garayev, is taking part in the sessions.

It was noted that through active participation in the work of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, Turkmenistan seeks to develop scientific and technical potential, promote deepening of international scientific dialogue and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to the protection of oceans and seas.

Turkmenistan consistently demonstrates its commitment to international initiatives to preserve marine ecosystems, develop scientific research and strengthen international cooperation in the field of oceanography. Particular attention is paid to the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of marine resources, including taking into account the unique importance of the Caspian Sea for the region.
