In recent years, interest in "green" energy—renewable sources such as solar and wind—has been growing worldwide, including in Turkmenistan. These sources are not only naturally inexhaustible but also minimize environmental harm.

Under Turkmenistan’s state policy in this area, a number of projects are being implemented to utilize alternative energy sources. The 2021 Law “On Renewable Energy Sources” marked a significant step in this direction. A vivid example is the construction of a 10-megawatt solar and wind power plant in the Gyzylarbat district of Balkan province.

Additionally, the construction of modern combined-cycle gas and steam power plants enhances energy efficiency and conserves natural resources. The newly installed gas turbines at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries meet current environmental standards.

Turkmenistan’s energy strategy is closely tied to international cooperation. National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during foreign visits, actively promotes collaboration in green and hydrogen energy, as well as environmental protection. Opportunities for such cooperation have been discussed with France, among others.

Overall, Turkmenistan places great importance on developing sustainable and environmentally friendly energy. These projects contribute not only to economic growth but also to environmental protection.
