In recent years, interest in "green" energy (renewable energy) derived from inexhaustible resources has significantly increased worldwide, including in our independent country. The use of this energy is associated with saving energy consumption, ensuring environmental well-being, improving people's living conditions, and utilizing cost-effective and economically efficient energy sources. Its reliability is based on the fact that it is derived from continuously occurring processes in the environment, which are inexhaustible. This creates conditions for the safe and accessible provision of society with energy sources.

"Green" energy is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, waves, and geothermal heat. Among them, solar and wind energy hold particular importance. In line with the state policy led by the esteemed President, the consistent implementation of projects in this field in our country allows for the conservation of fossil fuels, an increase in electricity production, the enhancement of its export, and the reduction of emissions into the environment, as the use of alternative energy sources is associated with lower emissions.

It is worth noting that among renewable energy sources, solar energy has the highest capacity. In prosperous Turkmenistan, all conditions are in place for the development of solar energy: over 300 sunny days per year and a daylight duration of 12 to 14 hours. The significant potential of solar energy enables active use of renewable energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The National Strategy for the Development of Renewable Energy until 2030 and the "Youth Action Roadmap for Climate Change 2025" serve as the foundation for these approaches. These documents reflect Turkmenistan's commitment to sustainable energy sector development.

As is known, the Law of Turkmenistan "On Renewable Energy Sources" came into force in March 2021. In accordance with this law, innovative projects are being developed to produce electricity using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. In July 2022, construction began on the first multifunctional solar and wind power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts in the Gyzylarbat district of Balkan province. This indicates great prospects for projects utilizing the potential of "green" energy.

The construction of a gas and steam power plant in the Turkmenbashi district of Balkan province demonstrates that the country is consistently implementing energy sector development programs and finding effective solutions to environmental challenges. According to the project, the new power plant will be equipped with four gas and two steam turbines with a total capacity of 1,574 megawatts. This combined gas-steam cycle system ensures high efficiency in electricity production by using the residual heat from the gas turbine to generate additional electricity in the steam turbine.

Production at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries (TCOR) meets environmental requirements due to the implementation of modern, high-quality technologies. The commissioning of two new gas turbines with a total capacity of 70 megawatts per hour is a clear example of this. The international certificates awarded to the energy project at the TCOR site confirm its success.

Turkmenistan's active participation in the implementation of major regional and international energy projects demonstrates its scientific and responsible approach to environmental issues. For this reason, in the socio-economic reform programs carried out under the leadership of the esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, one of the main tasks is defined as the active implementation of resource-saving, environmentally friendly technologies and high-efficiency equipment that meet environmental standards.

A significant contribution to the development of the "green" economy and the prioritization of environmental issues in state policy is made by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. During foreign visits, the Hero-Arkadag raises environmental issues, puts forward initiatives and proposals, and advocates for strengthening cooperation in this area.

During his official visit to the French Republic last week, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted at the Turkmen-French Economic Forum:

"Turkmenistan is interested in attracting advanced French experience in urban development, methane emissions monitoring, geological exploration, supply of oil and gas equipment, as well as in the fields of 'green' and hydrogen energy. These issues can be included in the agenda of the Turkmen-French Working Group on Energy Cooperation. We propose to hold the next meeting of the working group this year and continue the experience of holding international events, such as the energy forum held in Paris in 2024."

These statements confirm Turkmenistan's commitment to complying with environmental requirements in the implementation of major projects.
