The opening of the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Countries Development took place in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
In his speech, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of this international forum dedicated to the implementation of key UN programs, including the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Pact for the Future. He noted the importance of a comprehensive approach to the humanitarian, economic, social and environmental aspects of the development of landlocked countries.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov particularly highlighted the social policy of Turkmenistan, which is aimed at protecting and supporting people, developing their potential, ensuring a high level of medical care and social protection.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the existing difficulties of landlocked countries related to limited access to international transport corridors, which complicates the prompt delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, as well as the sustainability of social infrastructure. In this regard, Turkmenistan is ready to present practical proposals and begin cooperation with the relevant UN structures.
Also in his speech, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the active role of Turkmenistan in the development of international transport cooperation - starting with the holding of the first global conference on sustainable transport at the UN headquarters and the administrative meeting on transport issues for landlocked countries.
The President also recalled Turkmenistan’s proposal, voiced at the World Government Forum in Dubai in 2024, to create a new format of international partnership for sustainable development and integration of landlocked countries.
The head of state expressed confidence that Turkmenistan will continue to actively contribute to solving global challenges and strengthening international cooperation for the benefit of all peoples.
