On December 13, 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for Central Asia, Biljana Milosevic, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in festive events dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality.
During the meeting, a brief overview of the current activities of the ICRC in the region, particularly in Turkmenistan, was provided.
The discussions focused on the promotion and implementation of international humanitarian law into national legislation, as well as cooperation with the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan.
Both parties emphasized the importance of activities aimed at strengthening and enhancing the capacity of the ICRC’s national partners in the field of international humanitarian law.
In addition, the sides reviewed plans for cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the ICRC for 2025. Specifically, they discussed opportunities for the ICRC to conduct courses and lectures on international humanitarian law for relevant universities in Turkmenistan.
