The organizing committee of one of the region's most prestigious international energy forums — the 30th International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025” (OGT 2025) — has announced that China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will act as the platinum sponsor of the anniversary event, scheduled to take place in Ashgabat from October 22 to 24, 2025.
CNPC began its operations in Turkmenistan in 2002, investing in the oil and gas sector and providing engineering and technical services.
In 2007, CNPC and the Turkmengaz State Concern signed significant agreements on production sharing and long-term natural gas exports within the framework of the Bagtyyarlyk contractual territory. That same year, the company started industrial development of fields on the right bank of the Amu Darya River.
The Bagtyyarlyk area includes the Samandepe, Altyn Asyr, and several other fields, serving as a major source of Turkmen gas supplied through the “Turkmenistan–China” pipeline.
According to media reports, CNPC’s total investment in the project exceeds USD 9.4 billion.
In 2024–2025, CNPC continues its active participation in the development of Turkmenistan's gas sector. The company is modernizing production facilities, expanding the GGIZ-2 gas processing plant within the Bagtyyarlyk project, repairing and servicing compressor equipment, and working to improve operational efficiency to enhance the reliability and throughput capacity of infrastructure.
These initiatives demonstrate CNPC’s commitment to supporting the modernization of Turkmenistan’s energy infrastructure and strengthening its technological base.
According to its corporate strategy, CNPC aims to achieve near-zero carbon emissions by 2050, adhering to the principles of “clean alternatives, strategic transformation, and green development.”
The company actively adopts digital and innovative solutions, develops renewable energy projects, and improves the environmental standards of its operations.
These goals align with the theme of OGT 2025 — “Energy. Innovation. Development.” — highlighting the shared vision of Turkmenistan and CNPC for sustainable development and technological advancement.
By participating as a platinum sponsor, CNPC reaffirms its long-term commitment to the development of Turkmenistan’s energy sector. The company's involvement enhances the international status of the forum and facilitates knowledge exchange among global and regional energy leaders.
