The large-scale investment projects being implemented in the country’s oil and gas sector, thanks to the consistent energy policy carried out under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, are aimed at the comprehensive development and integration of one of the leading sectors of the economy into the international energy system. These projects not only have significant economic importance but also play a crucial role in maintaining regional and global energy security.

Among the key aspects of the national strategy are the efficient use of the industry’s vast potential, strengthening its position in the global market by meeting the demand for high-quality, competitive, and environmentally friendly products, introducing energy-saving technologies, using and developing renewable energy sources, as well as establishing business contacts with leading oil and gas companies and reputable financial institutions.

At the expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on July 12, 2024, the head of state focused on the priority tasks facing the fuel and energy complex (FEC). Emphasizing that the oil and gas sector is one of the key segments of the national economy, the President of Turkmenistan noted the need to further introduce modern technologies and implement comprehensive measures to increase the production capacity of specialized enterprises in the sector.

In addition, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the relevant authorities to attract foreign companies to explore and develop energy resources in the Caspian Sea region, while Turkmen geologists were directed to continue exploratory work to identify new promising hydrocarbon deposits. The President emphasized the need to intensify activities for the exploration, discovery, and development of hydrocarbon resources within the country, actively applying international expertise to these processes.

It is worth noting that, in order to address global environmental issues and to expand cooperation with other nations, reputable international organizations, and major companies, as well as in connection with Turkmenistan’s accession to the Paris Agreement—which includes commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions—a number of corresponding national programs have been adopted. Nationwide measures are being implemented to reduce the negative impact of methane emissions into the atmosphere. First and foremost, this involves a gradual transition to modern, environmentally friendly, and resource-saving technologies.
