Contribution of neutrality to strengthening peace and trust was discussed at a side event at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

On 30 June 2025, in the city of Porto, Portugal, within the framework of the 32nd session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Turkmenistan held a side event on the theme “International Year of Peace and Trust: Strengthening Multilateralism for a Secure and Sustainable Future”. The initiative was timed to coincide with the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared at the proposal of Turkmenistan, as well as the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

Welcoming statements at the event were made by the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pia Kauma, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative for Central Asia Farah Karimi, as well as representatives of the parliaments of the participating countries.

Participants emphasized the importance of neutrality as an effective mechanism for promoting international peace, stability and dialogue. Particular attention was paid to the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation, collective responsibility and mutual respect as the basis for a stable and secure international environment.

In their speeches, representatives of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly noted that Turkmenistan’s experience in implementing a neutral foreign policy is of interest from the point of view of promoting trust and culture.

The importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust as a platform for strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and deepening partnerships within the OSCE and other international organizations was separately emphasized.
