On March 13, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the presentation of the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking for 2025–2029, approved by the relevant Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in January of this year.
Members of the Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan on Combating Human Trafficking, heads and staff members of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan attended the event.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov drew attention to the significance of the new document developed by the Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan on Combating Human Trafficking in close coordination with relevant international organizations, particularly the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan on Combating Human Trafficking Begmurat Muhamedov emphasized that the National Plan consists of five sections, which outline target measures, deadlines for their implementation, relevant indicators, and state agencies responsible for the implementation of the tasks set.
Speakers noted that the adoption of this document is primarily aimed at strengthening the state system of guarantees, ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms in Turkmenistan, fulfilling the country’s international obligations in this field, expanding cooperation with international organizations in the humanitarian sphere, and focusing on work related to the prevention of threats on the national level.
The participants of the presentation were informed about the tasks and strategic vectors embedded in the document and exchanged views on their practical implementation.\
