Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to Expand Cooperation in Energy and Transport

On July 28, the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Baku.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Nokerguly Atagulyyev, while the Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the positive nature of cooperation between the two countries, covering important areas such as trade and economy, energy, transport, and cultural-humanitarian sectors. It was also noted that there are ample opportunities for expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

Special attention was given to the positive dynamics of transit transportation between the two countries.

The sides discussed the need to enhance the involvement of private sector representatives from both countries, including their participation in trade events, exhibitions, and forums held in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, the parties highlighted the potential for further expansion and strengthening of cooperation in the fields of energy and oil and gas, chemical industry, transport and communications, agriculture and food industry, environmental protection, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian domains.

Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation was signed. The document envisages expanding cooperation in trade-economic, energy, transport, agricultural, and other spheres.

The parties agreed to hold the next 9th session of the Commission in Ashgabat.
