Today, on August 23, with the participation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a solemn ceremony was held dedicated to the start of construction of gas wells at the world's largest gas field "Galkynysh" in the Yoloten etrap of Mary velayat.
In July 2021, the President of Turkmenistan signed a Resolution, according to which the State Concern Turkmengas signed a contract with CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (PRC) for the construction and commissioning of three gas wells of particular complexity.
As expected, the flow rate of each of them, on average, will be equal to three million cubic meters of gas per day. The project is designed for 30 months, in accordance with the agreement signed in 2007, payment for the company's services will be carried out through the supply of natural gas to the PRC within three years.
Congratulating the ceremony participants with an important event for the gas industry of the country, the President noted the successful development of strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China.
During the celebrations, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan Qian Naicheng, General Director of the National Branch of the China National Oil and Gas Corporation International Ltd. Chen Huailu.
Participants of the ceremony watched with great interest a video introducing the high achievements of the country's oil and gas industry.
Then, by teleconference, the President of Turkmenistan blessed the start of drilling gas wells at the Galkynysh field.
The oil and gas industry is the leading sector of the national economy, which plays a significant role in ensuring the dynamic rates of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan.
Much attention is paid to strengthening international cooperation in the energy sector, as the most important factor in the successful implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda for the period up to 2030. The initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov are aimed at forming a new architecture of global energy security, the relevance of which is clearly confirmed by the Resolutions "Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy Resources and Its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation", twice adopted by the UN General Assembly.
With a huge energy potential, Turkmenistan consistently produces a multi-vector export infrastructure, environmentally friendly fuel to world markets. Successfully solved the problem of strengthening the resource base of the industry, the industrial development of new fields, including in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea and the coastal area in the Amu Darya basin in the Central Karakum and other regions of the country.
One of the most ambitious projects in this area was the commissioning of the world's largest gas field Galkynysh, the reserves of which, together with the Yashlar and Garakol fields, are estimated at almost 27 trillion cubic meters.
After the opening of this gigantic storehouse of hydrocarbons, Turkmenistan confidently takes the fourth place in the world in terms of natural gas reserves.
Intensive prospecting and exploration work here was started by the State Corporation "Turkmengeologiya" in the 2000s. At the same time, each of the wells, which gave industrial inflows of hydrocarbon raw materials, contained several productive horizons located at different depths.
In December 2009, the State Concern Turkmengas signed contracts with CNPC Chuanging Drilling Engineering Company Limited (China), Gulf Oil & Gas Fze and Petrofac International (UAE) LLC (UAE) and the consortium of companies LG International Corp. " and Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd "(South Korea), providing for the design and construction of production wells and surface facilities at the Galkynysh field.
To accelerate the pace of this work, loans were attracted - $ 8.1 billion, provided by the State Development Bank of China (CDB), in accordance with the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the PRC. Separate loan agreements, for a period of 7 and 10 years, were concluded between the State Concern Türkmengaz, GBRK and PetroChina. Currently, these borrowed funds have been fully repaid.
As part of the first stage of the industrial development of Galkynysh, carried out by the State Concern Turkmengas together with foreign partners, 22 wells were built here, two gas processing complexes were built, with a total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year. They include units for primary treatment of hydrocarbon feedstock, gas purification and dehydration, stabilization of hydrocarbon condensate, as well as units for granulating and packing sulfur, equipped with modern equipment. A large amount of work has been done on the construction of engineering and communication networks, gas turbine power capacity of 75 MW, water systems, gas and electricity, access roads.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping took part in the solemn ceremony of launching these facilities, which took place on September 4, 2013. This event became another evidence of the successfully developing strategic partnership of Turkmenistan with the PRC.It should be noted that all technological processes at the Galkynysh field related to the production, collection, processing and transportation of gas are fully automated, control rooms are equipped with electronic and other special equipment to ensure reliable operation and environmental safety of facilities.
On the territory of the field, two settlements were also built for the accommodation of specialists working on a rotational basis. In these towns, all conditions have been created for a comfortable stay of people, their good rest and cultural events.
At the moment, there are 45 wells in the operating fund of the field, the area of which is more than 4 thousand square kilometers, the flow rate of each of them, on average, is equal to two million cubic meters of gas per day.
However, there is a high probability that the field is going beyond the boundaries of the existing area in the northwest and southeast directions. After receiving the additional information, assessment of gas reserves "Galkynysh" may be revised upward.
The Galkynysh field serves as one of the raw materials sources of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, in which the idea of rebuilding the Great Silk Road, which for millennia has connected the peoples of Eurasia, has been embodied. This energy main is one of the most ambitious engineering structures of the 21st century. In the practice of international relations, this project has also become a unique precedent of goodwill, constructive and fruitful interstate partnership.
Commissioned in December 2009 with the participation of the leaders of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China, the pipeline is designed to supply 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year, and the throughput capacity of its three lines (A, B and C) is 55 billion cubic meters.
An important event of 2021, which is held under the motto "Turkmenistan is the Homeland of Peace and Trust", is the commissioning of a new gas compressor station at the Malay field in Lebap velayat, where one of the branches of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline originates.
The new station, with a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, consists of two workshops. The first task is to fully develop the Malay field. The second workshop is designed for high-pressure pumping of gas from the Galkynysh and Dovletabat fields into the Malay-Bagtyyarlyk gas pipeline.
As a world energy power, Turkmenistan demonstrates a constructive approach to addressing issues of effective implementation of its colossal energy potential. Having established productive contacts with dozens of countries of the world, large foreign companies with solid experience and advanced technologies in various fields, our country has established itself as a responsible and reliable partner. The scale of the tasks being solved today in the oil and gas complex opens up the widest opportunities for broad international cooperation in this area on the basis of real economic benefits.
