During the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, to the Principality of Monaco, the National Equestrian Games Group “Galkynyş” achieved resounding success at the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo. The team was honored with the Golden Award and other special prizes, a testament to the fruitful efforts in developing circus arts in Turkmenistan.
Established in 1974, the festival is among the most significant global events in the circus world, held annually in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Its primary objectives include promoting circus arts, fostering its traditions, discovering talented artists worldwide, and strengthening cultural ties.
Artists representing diverse genres performed under the special circus tent in central Monte Carlo, making the festival a vibrant celebration of global artistry. The invitation extended to Turkmenistan’s renowned team for this prestigious international competition reflects the global recognition of the country's achievements in circus arts.
Under the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan continues extensive efforts to develop national culture and arts, elevating them on the global stage. In this context, particular attention is given to advancing the country’s unique circus art.
The revival of national circus arts is credited to Hero-Arkadag, whose initiatives led to the reopening of the State Circus of Turkmenistan in April 2010, igniting the development of new circus genres. The breathtaking acrobatics and gymnastic stunts performed by the “Galkynyş” group, combined with their unparalleled equestrian mastery, highlight the uniqueness of Turkmen circus art.
Founded in 2007 by the initiative of Hero-Arkadag, the “Galkynyş” group plays a pivotal role in the evolution of the nation’s circus art. Performing across the globe, the team has garnered numerous international accolades, including the Grand Prix at the “IDOL” World Circus Festival in Moscow, Russia, in 2013; the XVI International Circus Festival in Latina, Italy, in 2014; the II International Circus Festival in China in 2015; and the II World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, in 2016.
The group was also awarded the prestigious “Golden Gaetano” statuette at the 1st International Circus Festival on Fontanka in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2018, a proud moment for the nation that enhanced Turkmenistan’s international cultural reputation.
The “Galkynyş” team captivates audiences worldwide while promoting Turkmenistan’s rich national heritage. Their performances are also integral to celebrations and cultural events within the country, showcasing the elegance and grace of the legendary Akhal-Teke horses. These majestic creatures and the intricate skills of the riders create an unforgettable spectacle.
Under President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's leadership, efforts to preserve and promote the traditions of Turkmen equestrianism, particularly the Akhal-Teke breed, have reached unprecedented heights. The establishment of the Aba Annayev International Equestrian Academy in Arkadag city exemplifies these initiatives. The academy trains highly qualified specialists in equestrian science, veterinary medicine, equestrian sports, tourism, and national equestrian games.
Moreover, the city is home to the Gorogly State Equestrian Circus, a modern facility equipped with cutting-edge technology, accommodating up to 1,500 spectators. This venue offers an ideal platform for showcasing the exceptional skills of Turkmen artists and horses.
Training the renowned Akhal-Teke horses, symbols of beauty and speed, requires immense dedication, knowledge, and talent. These efforts, rooted in the traditions of Turkmen ancestors, have produced outstanding results, exemplified by the record-breaking achievements of Akhal-Teke stallion Akhan. Trained by Hero-Arkadag, Akhan set a Guinness World Record by covering a 10-meter distance on two legs in just 4.19 seconds, demonstrating the remarkable capabilities of this unique breed.
The performance of “Galkynyş” at the 47th International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo once again enthralled audiences with its daring and innovative acts. Blending acrobatics, gymnastics, and equestrian training, their performances reflect the high level of mastery attained by the group. Each stunt is a harmonious blend of skill, artistry, and national pride, leaving an indelible impression on the spectators.
The resounding applause and accolades received by the group reaffirm Turkmenistan’s cultural and artistic achievements, showcasing the country’s dedication to preserving and celebrating its rich traditions while sharing them with the world.
