On December 25, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, visited the construction site of the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center in the northern part of the capital. Soon, this site will house a modern medical complex, further enhancing the multidisciplinary structure of the national healthcare system.
The construction of new medical facilities, their state-of-the-art equipment, and the training of highly qualified medical professionals are key areas of state policy led by the President of Turkmenistan. This underscores the high priority given to improving public health and the well-being of every citizen at the national level.
Early in the morning, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived at the construction site, where work on the new building complex for the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center is progressing rapidly. After inspecting the types of construction and finishing materials being used, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that these materials must fully meet required standards and be durable and long-lasting.
Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was then presented with the designs for the new healthcare complex, its site plans, and equipment specifications. Minister of Health and Medical Industry M. Mammedov and N. Amannapessov, responsible for overseeing the construction of this modern regional oncology center, briefed him on these aspects.
It was noted that the center will feature modern healthcare facilities providing specialized medical services that meet international standards, equipped with advanced technology from leading global manufacturers.
The International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center, with a capacity of 500 beds, will emphasize the safety of medical services. Specialized diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation departments focusing on modern methods of cancer treatment are planned for this facility.
Highlighting the importance of equipping the center under construction in the northern part of Ashgabat in the Choganly residential area, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in healthcare, particularly in nuclear medicine, and to consult with its representatives. This is crucial for ensuring safe waste management at the new facility.
Focusing on the need to approach the center’s equipment from both current and future perspectives, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that tasks in this area must be addressed comprehensively, competently, and at a high level of responsibility. He issued several specific directives in this regard.
It was noted that advanced digital technologies and global expertise are being actively implemented in the country’s medical centers under the State Program “Saglyk,” initiated and driven by Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. As part of this program, a national database on the health status of citizens has been established.
Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continued, emphasizing that the key objectives for today are to provide medical services at the center in cooperation with leading global clinics, enhance the professional qualifications of oncologists, and organize training for clinical residents and researchers.
He highlighted the need for consultations with IAEA experts regarding the center’s equipment and stressed the importance of collaboration with organizations experienced in this field.

Stating that large-scale reforms are underway in the national healthcare sector, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized ongoing efforts to protect public health, increase life expectancy, and focus on disease prevention while modernizing the technical base of Health Centers.
Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlined three main directions for advancing the healthcare system. First, he proposed establishing a unified intellectual analysis department in the oncology center, designed to meet international standards and integrate digital technologies into all sectors of the economy.
Secondly, he stressed the importance of selecting young professionals proficient in digital technologies and scientific research. These individuals must combine innovation with responsibility and continually seek advancements in their fields.
Thirdly, he emphasized the necessity of language proficiency in English, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Russian for candidates working in this department.
In conclusion, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underscored the need for accurate diagnostics and the utilization of advanced technologies to organize high-quality treatment processes.
Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also called attention to the importance of scientific activity in healthcare, emphasizing the necessity of developing appropriate regulatory frameworks and intensifying collaboration with international organizations such as the IAEA.
During the visit, he reiterated the importance of advancing oncology-related research and creating comfortable working and living conditions for healthcare professionals, including the development of residential infrastructure in the area.
Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov concluded his visit by emphasizing the importance of ensuring the efficient operation of the center and left the site after wishing success in implementing the outlined tasks.
