On January 29, a telephone conversation took place between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov. The discussion included an exchange of views on several key issues of bilateral cooperation.

Expressing satisfaction with the dynamic and consistent nature of interaction between Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, Hero-Arkadag noted that this process has gained strong momentum in recent years, covering an increasing number of sectors. Taking the opportunity, he conveyed greetings from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

President Sadyr Japarov highly appreciated the current state of bilateral relations and emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s interest in their expansion and strengthening. He also extended warm greetings and best wishes to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

On the international stage, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan maintain productive cooperation on key global issues, including ensuring regional and global security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing environmental and water-related challenges, and other critical areas.

In this regard, the National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for its steadfast support of Turkmenistan’s international initiatives.

— We highly value this stance, cherishing the mutual understanding and trust that characterize our bilateral relations today, — emphasized the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, particularly noting the significance of Kyrgyzstan’s support for the UN General Assembly Resolution declaring 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” initiated by Turkmenistan.

It was highlighted that Turkmenistan, in turn, also supports Kyrgyzstan’s important international initiatives at the UN, particularly on environmental issues.

— As is well known, Turkmenistan prioritizes this area of cooperation and advocates for joint efforts by states and international organizations, particularly on vital topics such as glacier melting and comprehensive mountain development. We share Kyrgyzstan’s approach to including these issues in the UN’s climate agenda, — stated Hero-Arkadag.

Turkmenistan also supports measures aimed at protecting the natural and ecological environment of the region, which will ensure the rational and balanced use of water resources for the socio-economic development of both countries.

Recalling that Turkmenistan reaffirmed its stance on water issues at the “United Water Summit” in Riyadh, the National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed the country’s readiness to work actively with Kyrgyzstan to address these challenges.

Regarding environmental balance, Turkmenistan also supported the recent UN General Assembly Resolution proclaiming the International Day of the Snow Leopard, initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic. Notably, Turkmenistan was among the co-authors of the resolution, underscoring the high level of mutual understanding between the two countries on the international stage.

During the conversation, it was acknowledged that Turkmenistan-Kyrgyzstan relations are currently experiencing an upward trajectory. Regular contacts are maintained at government, diplomatic, and ministerial levels.

A significant boost to cooperation was provided by the visit of President Sadyr Japarov to Turkmenistan in June 2021, during which key agreements on partnership in various fields were reached.

Thanks to the efforts of both sides, these agreements are being successfully implemented, contributing significantly to the economic development of both nations and influencing regional processes.

Highlighting the mutually beneficial and productive cooperation in the energy sector, Hero-Arkadag expressed Turkmenistan’s readiness to further develop and diversify partnerships in this domain.

Discussing the great potential for bilateral cooperation, the parties emphasized the need to harness this potential in the interest of both countries and the development of the entire region.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, reminded that this year is of great significance for Turkmenistan, marking the 30th anniversary of its neutrality. Additionally, 2025 has been declared the International Year of Peace and Trust by the UN General Assembly at Turkmenistan’s initiative. In this regard, a Concept for Activities and Priorities for the year has been developed, reflecting Turkmenistan’s views on key global and regional development issues, along with a plan for major international events to be held both in Turkmenistan and on multilateral platforms, including at the UN and other international organizations.

Inviting the President of Kyrgyzstan to the upcoming Forum of the International Year of Peace and Trust, Hero-Arkadag expressed confidence that Sadyr Japarov’s personal participation would make a valuable contribution to its success.

President Sadyr Japarov, in turn, invited Hero-Arkadag to visit the Kyrgyz Republic at a convenient time.
