On August 12, the international scientific and practical conference "Caspian Sea - Sea of Friendship and Peace" began its work in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza", dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day.
The event was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions of the Caspian states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as delegates of a number of major international organizations.
The forum's agenda includes such issues as the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention), the importance of the Caspian waters for ornithology, as well as the role of the Khazar State Nature Reserve of Turkmenistan in preserving the biological diversity of the region.
Special attention is planned to be paid to environmental standards in the work of the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi and the prospects for the development of ecotourism in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza".
Experts from the International Institute of the Law of the Sea, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank will join the discussion via videoconference.
The participants will also consider the prospects for hydrometeorological cooperation between the Caspian countries and the importance of the Caspian Sea for strengthening good-neighborly relations in the region.
