On October 25, an event dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the entry into force of the Charter of the United Nations was held at the UN building in Ashgabat.
The event was attended by heads and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the UN Permanent Coordinator in Turkmenistan, heads and staff of UN agencies in Ashgabat.
The focus was on the significant role of the UN as an authoritative and legitimate universal international forum, a guarantor of the preservation and maintenance of peace, as well as a balance of interests in the international arena.
In his speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov noted the effectiveness and key vectors of constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
It was stressed that at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted 27 resolutions covering such areas as support for regional security, strengthening peace, ensuring sustainable development, overcoming challenges related to climate change, etc.
In particular, it was noted that on October 24, the day of the founding of the United Nations, at the 25th plenary session of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, the resolution "Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia" was unanimously adopted, co-sponsored by 37 UN member states, including all Turkmenistan's neighbors, that is, the states of Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Afghanistan.
During the event, Turkmenistan's commitment to further contribute to the realization of the humane goals of the United Nations was confirmed.
The Head of the Foreign Ministry informed about the preparations for the next meeting of the Strategic Advisory Council "Turkmenistan-United Nations", established with the support of the Distinguished President of Turkmenistan, during which specific steps for cooperation with the United Nations for the coming period will be discussed.
