At a meeting in Ashgabat, Caspian Countries extend ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species

From 24 to 26 November, the 9th meeting of the Commission for the Conservation, Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea and the Management of Their Shared Stocks was held at the Caspian Sea Institute of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat. Turkmenistan is chairing the Commission for 2025–2026.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the state of shared stocks, issues related to the conservation and reproduction of aquatic biological resources, and exchanged the results of scientific research.

A decision was adopted not to conduct commercial fishing of sturgeon species in 2026; fishing is permitted only for scientific purposes and for reproduction within agreed quotas. A Protocol was signed following the meeting.
